School should have been the safest place…
For Lizzie Riley, switching her six-year-old son Tom to the local academy school marks a fresh start, post-divorce. With its excellent reputation, Lizzie knows it’ll be a safe space away from home.
But there's something strange happening at school. Parents are forbidden from entering the grounds, and there are bars across the classroom windows.
Why is Tom coming home exhausted, unable to remember his day? What are the strange marks on his arm? And why do the children seem afraid to talk?
Lizzie is descending into every parent’s worst nightmare: her little boy is in danger. But will she be able to protect him before it’s too late?

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.A real page-turner, plus some very well-realised exploration into social services.I have to say, I've been having a bit of crime / thriller ennui recently (so many books seem to be so very similar in this genre) that I went in without much expectations. However, I'm pleased to report that this book had much in it that made it stand out - and as an examination of social services (and the level of work they have toI chose this audiobook as I was recommended Imogen Church as the narrator.Lizzie Riley, newly divorced from husband, had procured the admission for her son Tom in a new school which had fences and padlocks and parents not albeing allowed inside. Tom started coming home covered in bruises. What was happening in that school? My first book by author Suzy K Quinn, the story was a slow start with POV of different characters. Being an audiobook, I had nothing visual anchoring to the read. So it was a

But this book just made me want to read. I got addicted and read when I could. Lizzy and Tom run away from their home town to escape the abusive ex husband. They start a new life, a fresh start. Tom starts a new school but with bars on the windows, the gates padlocked and no parents allowed in lizzy doesnt think this

With thanks to Netgalley and HQ for this ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.Lizzy Reilly hoped to start afresh with her six year Tom after leaving an abusive marriage. Tom`s social worker Kate had managed to find him a place Steelfield, a popular school that had been rated outstanding by Ofsted. On Tom`s first day at Steelfield, Lizzy had an uneasy feeling about the school. There were bars on the windows, parents were not allowed to wait outside the school until hometime and the
Firstly I have to say this book kept me awake until 3am as I could not sleep unless I finished it. You had me addicted from page 1. Lizzie has moved with her son Tom aged 6, away from her abusive husband Ollie. Its a fresh start and Tom is going to be attending Steelfield Academy. The school at first appearance seems more like a prison, surrounded by locked gates, bars at the windows and a Headmaster that does not allow parents to enter the school. It is an excellent school with amazing Ofsted
Oh yes! Now, this was a good read. Gripping, intense, full of twists and turns. I completely loved it.I didnt feel like that for the first third or so, it seemed like a fairly middle of the road girl meets controlling boy type of read, but oh gosh this book speeds up really packs the punches. I just loved the formation of plot, the development of characters and the way in which Suzy K Quinn weaves all her intricacies in and out of what youre reading.Above all, this book really emphasises the
