I haven’t read much of Bob Ong’s works, by far this is the third book and I got to tell you it struck me that it was very different; I was used to his comedic style but didn’t expect this one. The style of writing was really one of my favorites; writing in reverse was unique. I think of it as sort of a memoir but it’s not because it’s fiction. The love story was beautifully written along with tragic and bittersweet events that life has to offer to any human being. The Melancholic punch of this book have not brought me in tears but I finish up contemplating about life, love, things as "soulmates" and wonder will I experience the same nostalgia?

I never thought I'd say this to a love story... I loved this. I love it. Seldom do you read a love story so pure and so true without the need to spice it up with sensuality. My first Bob Ong. It was also refreshing to read a novel in my first language. I definitely will reread this. I wonder how did my grandparents' love story went...ah, too late to ask.



I was not expecting too much from this book. I've read most of Bob Ong's works - and this was a daring move for him to write in another genre other than satire. I loved all of his satires. Reading through the first chapters of this book, I thought he lost his 'magic', and the story was an attempt to at obliging an unbearable nostalgia of a life that came to be. ⭐⭐⭐ Ang kapalaran ay kuwentong matagal mo nang inisip para sa iyong sarili. That ending is mind blown! The unique style of writing (and reading the book) made me emotional in the end. A story of life, struggles, pain, and of love. However, the first few chapters were a drag. Took me long to finish this book because of it. But once it reaches halfway, the plot thickens and it becomes interesting. And once again that ending... Full of impact and insightful. It made reading the whole book
