I am as many who've read other reviews etc. from me will know that I'm a huge C.S. Lewis fan. I've read a great deal of his writing (fiction and nonfiction) and recommend it all. This isn't the first boi of read of him.

This is an interesting biography and it does touch on the era before Lewis' conversion. I'm a little leery as we do have to take the writer's word for some of what Lewis nay have thought though in most cases he dies have writings by Lewis himself and those who knew him.

All in all I go 4 stars here but I must admit that the book will probably appeal more to those who are interested in the life of C.S. Lewis. The writing gets a little detail oriented at times but still you get a picture of the man and his journey from atheism to Christianity.

Well researched and wonderfully written. I've read many books on Lewis and so I'm always a bit surprised to be treated to information that I haven't read somewhere else. Looking forward to Into the Region of Awe, next.

A dry read but so glad I was able to see it adapted off Broadway this past Spring!

An introduction to Lewis' convertion to Christ and his intelectual pathways. Great book to help us understand better his work and way of thinking through the many phases of his early years. His intelectual process from atheist to christian is by itself a great lesson envolving literature, philosophy, psichology and lovely, simple and clear realizations about Life.

I read several books about Mr. Lewis during this Lenten season, and I have to say that this one was the best. It was a good balance of personal stories and philosophical ideas. If you only read one book about C S Lewis, this would be a good one to consider.

Grateful that Brother Jack wrestled, contemplated, and reasoned his way home. In today's age of emotionalism and hype, it's refreshing to encounter the slow and deliberate, even though reluctant, search and pursuit that results in understanding that we are actually the ones being sought and pursued.

I really enjoy books by CS Louis so I thought this book would be very interesting for me. I found it to be a lot more discussion on philosophy and what thinkers and authors directed CS Louis' train of thought than I would have liked. His conversion to Christianity is quite fascinating and this book had some interesting moments but was fairly dry overall. I finally gave up on finishing the last couple chapters because my interest had dropped so much.
