The story was really pretty cool, but to me it felt like the author was really attached to certain imagery and background that didnt quite fit realistically in the story, and the language was ultra-distractingly-flowery. 4 stars for the basic storyline!

Apparently I had The Memory Keeper's Daughter confused with a book I liked better because I remember being quite happy to get my hands on The Lake of Dreams because it was by the same author. I didn't hate it and I did finish it but I was not completely captivated. Actually, I was kind of captivated by the main character's genealogical sleuthing and her family's past but something, or some things, just annoyed me. As in Memory Keeper's I just never really felt engaged with any of the characters.
