In this case, the atmosphere almost eclipses the heroine. The reader will pull for Miranda, the independent, strong-minded heroine but mostly because they feel they're supposed to. Some of the more minor supporting characters (Eliza, the servant with a talent for healing; the morally complicated and brash Beatrice; and the sly Agnes) seem to jump off the page more. I put this book on hold as part of my plan to read more genre fiction. So far it's surprisingly entertaining. Set during the Elizabethan period, it tells the story of a teenage girl trying escape an undesirable engagement by becoming Queen Elizabeth's seemstress. The book is a little bit over written in places but the fast moving plot and strong characters managed to hold my interest. I'm not usually a fan of historical fiction.

Nothing much to say since i'm still angry about the fact that Miranda ended up with "boy who dumped her when she was penniless and then liked her later again when she became Queen Elizabeth's favorite" over "knight who was steadfast and a good friend and would have made a good husband".

I do enjoy period novels. I had forgotten how much I love them until I read "A Sweet Disorder". I really really enjoyed this book and I can't believe I had never heard of it! It was published in 2009 and I'm just reading it?! I obviously missed out. But fate would have me happen upon this book as I heading to check out my library books. Sitting on a display shelf was "A Sweet Disorder" and the cover had me hooked. It didn't take long for me to realize what a delightful choice I had made. Miranda

A fun book written about the time of Queen Elizabeth, clean, good story. I like to read about this time period.
