Hymnen an die Nacht
♥ the Night!
I've never been a big fan of the Age of Enlightenment, probably because I mistrust human reason so much. Reason has its place, mind you, but I don't see it capable of encompassing life and providing a means to understand all that's going on. But I do thank the Enlightenment for at least one thing and that is that it provided a breeding ground for Romanticism of the Germanic and English varieties. Repress the irrational (and mystical and phantastic and imaginal) for too long and it's bound to

The atmosphere isn't as dark and as tragic as late romanticism but it's still very enjoyable.
An odd collection of poetry, which sees Night as a an embodiment of Death, but Death as the ascension of the enlightened soul to immortality. Therefore, light and day and all of their distractions are less impressive, to the author, than night.
Und was erklang?
