Rendition Supposing Books Deep in the Heart of Trouble (Trouble #2)

"Are you packing a pistol right now?"

That quote, right there, is one reason I really enjoyed Deep in the Heart of Trouble by the wonderful Deeanne Gist. Was this a girl asking a guy? Nope, this question was asked of our lead Essie. I won’t give you her answer, but it made me laugh. I get asked if I’m packing heat all the time!

Another reason I liked this book? I needed - not wanted - a sequel to Courting Trouble where we first met the Spreckelmeyer clan. In Courting Trouble we encounter 30 year old Essie who is determined she will find herself a husband. The story is full of character’s mistakes, reality of what can happen when we let our guard down, how easy it is to compromise, dealing with the consequences and how beautiful grace can be. Even with that, when it ended, I thought “boo! That didn't end how I wanted.” But then the wonderful word known as sequel appeared. In!

In Deep in the Heart of Trouble we find ourselves four years after the end of the first book.

Texas bloomer girl Essie Spreckelmeyer (Courting Trouble) is still just trying to maintain her balance. The president of the local velocipede club has had her fair share of pratfalls, but her present situation is unusually perilous. Running her father’s oil company in this male-dominated boomtown was difficult enough before arrival of handsome, headstrong Tony Morgan.

I’m such a fan of Gist’s book and this one was no different. She’s so funny! I enjoyed the maturity of each of the characters and how they grew as people and to each other. Toss in a little mystery & intrigue and you got yourself a winning combination. Plus the changes the main characters go through aren’t over dramatic, cheesy or unbelievable. So yes, I shall continue to read through all of her books, because they are fantastic!

I’ll end with one more funny quote:
“There were only three reasons a woman’s name should ever appear in the Corsicana newspaper: being born, getting married, and keeling over dead. To provoke a full article not just in Corsicana Weekly but in newspapers scattered across the country was nothing short of appalling.”

Do you enjoy Gist’s novels or this time period? Have you read this one? What’s your favorite historical read and author?

P.S. I don’t really get asked if I’m carrying a weapon, just in case you weren’t sure if I was joking.

Notice Out Of Books Deep in the Heart of Trouble (Trouble #2)
In the first 100 pages of this story, we see the heroine, Essie Spreckelmeyer, win a national fashion contest, incite a riot, successfully run Texas's 2nd largest oil company, found and take charge of a ladies bicycle organization, teach classes on how to properly shoot guns and play soccer (not at the same time, thank heavens), She's saved the life of a young girl bit by a rattlesnake and cooked up an award winning dinner. She's Wonder Woman!!! In fact the only thing keeping her from total

I liked the first book better but this was still an enjoyable read. There were times where I felt Essie's character was inconsistent with how she had grown from the first book and the plot was a bit more out there this time around. I really shouldn't complain too much though, as Deeanne Gist is one of my favourite Christian romance novelists.

This was a great sequel to "Courting Trouble". I highly encourage you to read that book first in order to truly get to know Essie Spreckelmeyer.Essie is an outspoken, independent young lady who owns her own bicycle business and is content with being single. Along comes Tony Morgan, newly hired at Spreckelmeyer's oil company, who wants to regain his name and his fortune. He is not interested in the blond and bossy Essie....yet.There will be a lot of twists and turns along the way for these two,

This book was pretty good and at the end of it picked up.

I liked this book a lot better than most of the romances I read. Almost all the others are predictable from start finish and it doesn't leave much room for gasp inducing plot twists, but this one had murder, lies, and secrets!I do have to admit that the fact that she was six years older than him bothered me so much. I'm not at all saying a girl cannot be older than a guy in a relationship, but six years? In all honesty it grossed me out a little. All I could imagine after learning she was so

I must say, this novel and the one that has come before it have been the only two books by Deeanne Gist that I have been disappointed in. I had not realized that the first novel was even one of hers until I read this one. I did enjoy the second one a lot better than the first one, and the first one was not terrible, just not what I have come to expect from Ms. Gist. The story line follows a matron who is out to save her own world, thank you very much, she does not need or want the help of any

Energetic spinster Essie Spreckelmeyer is back, but this time, she's got her head on straight. After making the hugest mistake of her life, she's not about to succumb to needing another man. She and the Lord are doing just fine on their own, thank you very much.As his father's last will and testament is read Tony Morgan finds he's been abruptly and cruelly disinherited from his portion in the family lavish oil industry. As he sets out to find his own way in the oil business, he never expect to
